Strabrechtse Heide

The Strabrechtse Heide is a wide and colourful nature reserve of approximately 1500 hectares, located in the municipalities of Heeze-Leende, Someren and Geldrop-Mierlo. It is truly one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Brabant. The moment you walk into the heath, you cannot help but hold your breath: you’ll want a moment of quiet to appreciate it all.

  • Sang en Goorkens

    The Sang en Goorkens is an extensive nature reserve in Mierlo, in total about 122 hectares. The Sang is a scientific forest reserve of approximately 15 hectare. It is not managed and it is not cut down because it is a very old alder forest that existed before 1800.

  • Dal van de Kleine Dommel

    If you like walking and surprisingly beautiful views by the water, then a walk through the Dal van de Kleine Dommel in Geldrop should definitely be on your bucket list. It is known as one of the most beautiful stream landscapes in Brabant.

    South of the Strabrechtse Heide, towards Weert in Limburg, is the Somerense Heide. A colourful walking and cycling area with various pools, such as the Beuven and the Keelven.

    Geldrop-Mierlo lies within a magnificent region perfect for walking. Walk along the colourful scenery or through the cosy town. You can choose to walk a few kilometres through the woods or on the Molenheide choose to have a longer hike over the Strabrechtse Heide.

In addition to the various walking and cycling routes, you can also visit the beautiful Geldrop Castle Estate. Stroll and admire the English Landscape Garden, Flower Garden and Sensory Garden.

You can find Geldrop Castle in the middle of Geldrop’s town centre surrounded by a magnificent English landscape garden. “Kasteel Geldrop”, as it is called by the Dutch, was built in 1350 by knight Philips the First of Geldrop, of whom little else is known. You will also find the petting zoo, sensory garden and flower garden on the castle estate. But before you leave, be sure to treat yourself to a delicious lunch at the Kasteelhoeve restaurant.
